In Appreciation of Mema
On this Mother's Day 2023 I cannot think of a single mother more deserving of appreciation than my dear mom, Chris.
As some of you may know, Mom has followed in the formidable footsteps of Edith Ruhl and taken up the "Mema" mantel. Mom has lived up to, and indeed elevated the Mema legacy through her nurturing, steadfast grandmothering. For the past 3 years Mom has made the 25 minute commute to our home to help us raise Quentin and Elliott. She is tremendously responsive to the children's needs and serves as a steadying presence through the daily chaos of raising a toddler and baby.
It is such a gift to raise your children in tandem with your own mother and have the opportunity to add another layer onto your mother-son relationship. In addition to her weekday grandchild-sitting shifts we're lucky to see her and "Pop-pop" most weekends for family potluck dinner. She always brings tasty, home-cooked dishes - her signature roasted potatoes and bell peppers dish is always welcome - and brightens our Sunday evenings.
Not a day goes by that I'm not thankful for Mema's loving attention to our family and my own kids.
I love you, Mom. Happy Mother's Day.
